A1 Summer, BATIK FOR BEGINNERS: NATURE WALL HANGING
Instructor: Alison L. Baker
Dyeing batik is a true color mixing experience. Hot wax works as a resist. Immersing the cloth into a dye bath colors the design. Colors mix with progressive dye baths. The cloth is usually dipped but may be painted if desired. Wax and watercolor on paper will be used to investigate color mixing as an introduction to the technique. We will plan your design using leaves, feathers or other objects from nature along with simple lines, swirls, dots, and shapes. We will work on cotton fabric. Subsequent classes will be spent waxing and dyeing the progressive colors. Limit of 6 students for this class!
Note: Tuition includes the cost of instructor provided batik specific supplies such as wax, dye, heating equipment, etc. Student supply list covers other necessary materials.
