W.6. Linda McCloskey: PAINTING LARGE ABSTRACTS (all levels)
New to abstract painting or afraid to go LARGE? This is the class for you. We will be working on large canvases (min 40 x 30) and we will also complete a paper piece using acrylic, oil sticks, crayon, markers, graphite, charcoal, etc. This is not a mixed media class – strictly painting! Lots of demonstrations and individual help included. A class you won’t want to miss! BE SURE TO REQUEST A SUPPLY LIST FOR THE WORKSHOP.

Saturday, March 17- 9:00am- 3:30pm (1/2 hour lunch)
Sunday, March 18- 9:00am- 3:30pm (1/2 hour lunch)

Paints I use both acrylic types – either tube or liquid (fluid) will work – Liquitex Basic is OK
Tube Acrylics – bring your favorites – colors you like to work with OR – DON’T NEED BOTH
Fluid Acrylics – bring your favorites – colors you like to work with
One sheet of watercolor paper (I will have if you want to purchase from me)
Brushes / Toothbrush Variety of flats and rounds – your choice. You will need a good 2” flat brush, 1” flat brush, ½” flat brush, a small round and a liner (or rigger) You can also use 1 or 2 of the cheap chip brushes. AC Moore sells a pack of brushes which is excellent.
All items can be purchased at AC Moore or Michaels.
Also, bring a notepad and pen! WEAR OLD CLOTHES that you don’t mind getting messy with paint. If you have any questions prior to class, feel free to call me at 717-623-2333. The list is long, but these are the items that I use regularly. QUESTIONS? CALL ME.
Other Important Items
Liquitex Super Heavy Gesso (my favorite) AC Moore or molding (modeling) paste / or hardware store venetian plaster
White & Black Gesso (very important – don‘t buy white or black paint – use the gesso -can be found at AC Moores or Michaels
Gloss Medium & Varnish (Liquitex) – AC Moore or Michaels
Charcoal – chunky

Water (in a spray bottle)
Squeegees – different sizes from credit card size to larger – also AC Moore sells a grey wedge that works well made by Princeton.
Brayer – A MUST – I use the “soft” type (AC Moore and Michaels sells the Speedball brand in the craft section)
Big water container – like a large coffee can
Canvas – We will be working on 2 large canvas – 40 x 30 (minimum) plus one on paper . Bring all canvases the first day. I will have some paper for purchase.
Freezer paper – near the Reynolds Wrap at grocery store – we use this as a palette.
