W7 Fall WATERCOLOR PORTRAIT SKETCHING (All levels)
Instructor: Pam Wenger
Learn how to paint portraits in watercolor in a spontaneous style that involves minimal layering and the use of transparent colors to create luminous paintings. This workshop will be a combination of demo and hands-on portrait work. You will primarily work from partially pre-drawn portraits that will be provided.
You will finish the drawings, but the basics will be there. If you prefer to work completely free hand, that is fine. You will be asked to bring along one pre-drawn portrait of your own on watercolor paper, approximately 9”x1l” paper, head only. In this workshop, we will analyze some of the common mistakes that are made when working on portraits in watercolor and look at examples of successful watercolor portraits by artists from around the world. Note: as part of her demo presentation, Pam will share her method of using an iPad or other tablet devices for creating accurate portrait drawings without the need for gridding, tracing or projecting. If you have an iPad, please bring it along. Class size will be limited so that students may receive individual attention. Students should be comfortable with painting in watercolor, but do not need to have experience with portrait painting.
